PELICAN™ Lighting Systems: Guiding you safely through large working area and hazardous zones
Since 1976, PELICAN has illuminated the world’s darkest and most dangerous places with specialized, professional lighting tools for different kinds of markets. Throughout the years, PELICAN has grown to be the trusted expert in safety approved lighting products, fully complying with the latest Directives to ensure worker’s safety.
To meet the exacting requirements of ATEX, IEC (Europe) and UL/FM (US) directives, PELICAN lights are tested to ensure that they pose no threat of ignition when operating within hazardous locations. Using approved laboratories, the lights are tested to ensure that they will withstand rigorous impact and drop tests, severe environmental exposure and meet a minimum of IP54 water and dust ingress protection. Longevity and safety are assured by design.
ATEX directive 2014/34/EU
ATEX is a Directive adopted by the EU for products intended for use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres. ATEX Directive 1994/9/EC became mandatory for manufacturers and end users on the 1st of July 2003. The new Directive 2014/34/EU was released on the 26th of February 2014 and has been applicable since the 20th of April 2016. This Directive requires manufacturers to supply properly certified electrical equipment if purposed for use in potentially explosive areas. From the workers’ side, ATEX Directive 1999/92/EC regulates requirements for improving the safety and health protection of workers potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres.
These Directives state that each working area needs to be classified according to the potential hazardous risk it presents. Under the CENELEC (previous Directive), areas were divided into three classifications: Zone 2, Zone 1, and Zone 0 depending on the level of risk. With the ATEX Directive, every Zone is associated to a Category, and every electrical equipment is classified according to these categories, certifying in which areas it can be safely used.
With full attention on the new directive, PELICAN invested a lot in R&D to guarantee that the high-level performance of its lighting systems remains – illuminating working spaces effectively and maintaining the necessary safety standards for workers.
What are the latest additions to PELICAN´s EU ATEX certified lighting range?
To illuminate larger working areas, confined spaces or potentially hazardous zones, PELICAN proudly introduced the 9455 RALS – the World´s first portable floodlight with three global safety certifications: ATEX European Zone 0 (Cat.1), IECEx ia and CI, D1. PELICAN´s Remote Area Lighting Systems (RALS) provide fully portable, powerful, energy-efficient and rechargeable lighting without the use of a generator. These LED floodlights make working in remote areas easy, are self-contained and extremely easy to set up. The need for a military safe, economic and convenient alternative to generator powered lighting is answered.
Within the handheld lights range, PELICAN launched the 3345 Light. The strength of this flashlight? It has a mind of its own! It is the first professional torch that automatically adjusts brightness. The 3345 and 3345Z0 (certified ATEX zone 0) examines the ambient light and instantly adjust its lumens. Moreover, the dual beam permits more security, the primary spot beam brightens long tunnels while the secondary flood beam illuminates potential hazards like loose cables. As with all other PELICAN handheld torches, the 3345 light comes with the legendary PELICAN Lifetime Guarantee (where authorized by law).
PELICAN™ 9600 LED Modular Light with Powerful Wide Beam Coverage. No Dark Spots!
With 3.000 lumen value per light head, the 9600 offers continuous lighting that complies with the HSE requirement for illumination.
Now it’s easy to light up long stretches of rail track and tunnels without the hassles of conventional heavyweight light towers. This powerful solution uses special optics to offer continuous lighting fully compliant with the HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) requirements for illumination. Moreover, with fewer lights chained up, you will be able to cover the same working area as other linear lights, having a cost-effective result.
PELICAN™ 9600 LED Modular Light illuminates a clean, seamless beam spread without dark spots, while competitors’ lights produce a dull, uneven beam spread. The 9600 offers minimal light transmission loss in comparison to similar linear lights; the declared 3.000 lumen value per light head is the true verified light output. Similar systems may lose some of the declared lumen value due to the material and design of the lens, but the unique ‘optically clear’ polycarbonate used for the custom recessed 9600 lens reduces scratching, light transmission losses and provides light exactly where it is required.
The company offers over 65 lights with USA Safety approvals and European ATEX Certification.
