South Africa’s Mineral Resources Minister, Mosebenzi Zwane, has stunned mining and exploration companies again, by gazetting a proposal to restrict the granting of new mining and permitting rights, as well as the transfer of mineral rights between companies.
In the gazette, Zwane says the move to put a moratorium on mining rights is aimed at promoting the sustainable development of the natural resources and safeguard national interest.
