PMI Gold Corporation Chairman and Non-Executive Director
Jim Askew has been appointed the new Chairman and Non-Executive Director of PMI Gold. He is a mining engineer with broad international experience as CEO and/or a Board member for mining, resource investment, contracting, software and mining service companies in the international arena. He has had continuous involvement with the Ghanaian gold industry since 1985.
His commodity exposure has been primarily base, precious metal and uranium developments and operations, in all major continents of the world. As a Board member, past or present, of over 30 publicly held resource companies internationally, he has broad experience of the public company issues attendant to international exploration and mining companies. He has been a resident in the USA for the last 20 years. He spends about half a year in Australia associated with business and a gaggle of grandchildren.
Specific to PMI, a chronology of experience includes the following
1980-86, Founder of James Askew Associates (now AMC Consultants), extensive international assignments in surface and underground mine design and economics, owned Datamine, and involved in establishing the JORC code.
1986-96, Founder and Managing Director, Golden Shamrock Mines Limited, including the complete establishment of the Iduapriem Mine in Ghana and the development, to a construction decision, of the Siguri Mine in Guinea. GSM also owned copper and iron ore mines elsewhere. The Company was taken over by Ashanti Gold in 1996.
1986-2010, Co-founder of Ausdrill, instrumental in establishing their West African business (African Mining Services, or AMS), now the dominant mining contractor throughout the region, based in Ghana.
1995-97, Partner, EMGF Funds Management, a closed end investment fund active in partnering with junior public companies in the Americas, 1998-99, CEO Rayrock Resources, with three mines in Nevada and one in Chile. Taken over by Glamis (now Goldcorp).
1999, CEO, Golden Star Resources, transformed the Company from pure exploration to gold mining at Bogoso in Ghana and continued as a Board member until 2013.
2010-present; Member of the Advisory Board of Pala Investments, a natural resources fund based in Switzerland.
Directorships in recent years relevant to PMI include Golden Star, Sino Gold (Chairman), Eldorado Gold, Oceana Gold (Chairman), Evolution Mining and Yamana Gold.
Jim Askew has been Chairman and/or CEO of 12 public companies and, since 1998, usually in situations where some degree of distress, financing or change management is required. He has led numerous financings, M&A and mine building teams. He has been a Director of TSX and ASX listed companies (often dual-listed) since 1985.
